The lovely and historic town of Bath is about an hour and a half by train from London, or a two hour drive by car. Bath is in the Avon River valley, about 35 miles from Stonehenge (see below) and 17 miles from Bristol. Named after the ancient Roman Baths, it's full of incredible Georgian architecture from the mid-1700s. The Romans made Bath the first spa resort in England, and it became famous again as a spa town in the 18th century.
Of course, the Bath Abbey, located adjacent to the Roman Baths Museum, is one of the most interesting sights to see. Click the VR link to see a panorama showing the entrance to the Abbey, and to the Baths. There are a number of places to stay within easy walking distance of this location, including the Best Western Abbey Hotel, the Hilton Bath City, the Royal Crescent Hotel, Mercure Francis, and The Queensberry Hotel.
The detail on the front of the abbey is incredible.
There are also numerous places to stay on the ourskirts of town and in the surrounding countryside, including the Bath Priory Hotel, the Best Western Cliffe Hotel, and the MacDonald Bath Spa Hotel.
There's much to see in addition to the Abbey and Roman Baths. This is Pulteney Bridge:
and here's the view from the bridge, looking out over Pulteney Weir.
Bath is a short (about an hour) ride from Stonehenge.
