It seems like the sun is always shining in San Diego. And luckily there are lots of beachfront parks to play in. About 15 minutes north of downtown, there are a number of lovely seaside communities, including Del Mar (where this pano was shot), La Jolla (home of UC San Diego), and Solano Beach. You can find the Wild Animal Park in Escondido, and Legoland in Carlsbad. Here are a few suggestions north of town: Hyatt Regency La Jolla, Doubletree Del Mar, Marriott Del Mar, Hilton Mission Valley, Doubletree Mission Valley, and the Rancho Bernardo Inn.
The pano below was shot at Crown Point, which is on Mission Bay, not far from Sea World and Old Town. Hotels nearby include the Hyatt Islandia, Dana Inn and Marina, Hilton San Diego Resort, Best Western Blue Sea Lodge, and the San Diego Paradise Point Resort.
A few minutes south on the freeway brings you downtown, which is where you'll find Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo. This pano was shot down at the Embarcadero (not far from Little Italy), from the Maritime Museum (that's the Star of India clipper ship in the foreground). There are many hotels nearby, including the Wyndham Emerald Plaza, Hyatt Regency, Holiday Inn, Marriott San Diego Hotel & Marina, Marriott Suites Symphony Towers, Radisson Harbor View, and the Westin Horton Plaza. The Gaslamp Quarter is an interesting area of downtown; check the Westgate Hotel, and Hilton Gaslamp Quarter if you're interested in staying there.
Also downtown is the airport (Lindbergh Field), and directly adjacent to it you'll find Harbor Island. It's a very relaxing place to catch the sunset. You can stay on Harbor Island at the Sheraton, or the Hilton Harbor Island.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can take a drive, just a little more than an hour to the north, you can find the lovely community of Laguna Beach, one of our favorites. Newport Beach is another 20 minutes to the north, and of course Disneyland is in the vicinity as well.
