If you're traveling
to San Francisco, you probably want to see the Golden
Gate Bridge, so, here's the view from the Marin County
side, above Sausalito.

You'll also want to see Fisherman's Wharf. If you decide to stay out near the wharf, you'll be conveniently close to the bridge, as well as Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, boats to Alcatraz, North Beach, and the Marina. Hotel choices near the wharf include: the Sheraton, the Hyatt, the Marriott, and the Hilton.
If you're interested in staying downtown, San Francisco's "South of Market" (SOMA) district includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), the Moscone Convention Center, Yerba Buena Gardens, and a wide range of boutiques, theaters and galleries. Hotels in this neighborhood include: The Argent (check out the view from this room at the Argent!)
W San Francisco, the Marriott, and the Palace are all nearby. This neighborhood also includes Pacific Bell Park, home of the Giants, and an incredibly beautiful place to watch a baseball game.
The SOMA district
is just a few blocks from Union Square, which is a mecca
for shopping, heart of the Theatre District, and
steps away from the Financial District. Hotels around Union
Square include the Westin
St. Francis,
the Grand
Hyatt,
the Hilton, the Hotel
Nikko,
and the Sir
Francis Drake.
From Union Square it's a short walk (perhaps climb might be more
accurate) or cable car ride to Nob Hill, where you'll
find spectacular views of San Francisco Bay, the city,
the surrounding hills, and the ocean. Situated minutes from Chinatown
and the City's business districts, you can stay at the Huntington
Nob Hill,
the Fairmont, or the Ritz
Carlton.
San Francisco's Financial District centers around the Transamerica Pyramid, and stretches down to the Embarcadero, which is also where you can catch ferry boats to Sausalito and Marin County. Hotels near the Embarcadero include the Hyatt Regency, the Mandarin Oriental, and the Park Hyatt.
