Kauai, Hawaii Princeville Hotel

QuickTime VR for Kauai (Hanalei Bay) can be seen here.

The north shore of Kauai is the lush, tropical paradise that everyone dreams about when they think of Hawaii. The area around Hanalei and Princeville is one of the most beautiful spots on the planet, and the coast is dotted with secluded beaches like Lumahai Beach, shown here.

If this is the Hawaii you are looking for, you can stay at the Princeville Hotel, Hanalei Bay Resort , or the Hanalei Colony Resort.

The photo above was taken at Ke'e Beach -- the very last beach at the end of the road, where the Na Pali coast begins. You can hike a trail down this rugged coastline, and there are whale-watching zodiac boats available in Hanalei.

Princeville is a resort area and golfing paradise just adjacent to Hanalei. Here's what a sunset over Bali Hai (made famous in the movie South Pacific) looks like from Princeville.

Be aware, though, the north shore is lush with vegetation because it is the rainy side of the island. So, you might find some clouds in paradise on occasion.

If you prefer to stay where it's mostly sunny (on the south shore), you might want to consider the areas around Lihue and Poipu. In Poipu, you can stay at the Poipu Kai Resort, Makahuena at Poipu, Poipu Crater Resort, or the Nihi Kai Villas.

In the Lihue area, choose from the Castle Kaha Lani, Banyan Harbor, or the Radisson Kauai Beach. There are also great places to stay north of Lihue, in Kapaa, notably the ResortQuest Kauai Beach , Aston Islander on the Beach, and the Outrigger Lae Nani.

The Poipu and Lihue resorts are closer to Waimea Canyon,

also known as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific".

If you drive up to the canyon, make sure you go all the way to the end of the road because the view from the Kalalau Lookout is too spectacular to miss.
