London, England The Ritz London
One of the great things about London is that there are a tremendous number of things to see within walking distance of one another. We'll start our tour of London as so many people do, at Buckhingham Palace (if you're not staying at The Ritz London, or the Hilton London on Park Lane, or the Hilton London Green Park, just take the Underground to Green Park station).
From the palace, you can walk along Green Park and St. James' Park down through Admiralty Arch to Trafalgar Square, home of the National Gallery (the British Museum is a few blocks away). If you take a left turn at Trafalgar Square, it's a short walk to Picadilly Circus and Leicester Square (lots of nightlife), and there are lots of hotels nearby in Mayfair, including Claridge's, Brown's Hotel, and the Langham Hilton London. There's lots of shopping to be found around Bond Street and Oxford Street. Of course, if you like to shop you might want to stay in Knightsbridge, near Harrods. Check out The Berkeley, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, and the Sheraton Park Tower.
Walking from Trafalgar Square, if you turn right after crossing through the arch, you'll be heading down towards Westminster, where you'll find Big Ben, the houses of Parliament, and, of course Westminster Abbey.
If you walk past Big Ben, you'll be on Westminster Bridge, which goes across the Thames River. That's the Marriott County Hall Hotel next to the London Eye (Millenium Wheel).
After seeing London from the sky, you can proceed down the Thames and cross back over at Waterloo Bridge.
You'll find Embankment Gardens, the renowned Savoy Hotel, and the Strand on the west side of the river.
If you walk back down the Strand, you're in the Theater District, and you'll wind up once again back at Trafalgar Square. Or you can head over to Covent Garden (check the Covent Garden Hotel), or Oxford Circus. If you head the other direction down the Strand you enter the old City of London, where you'll find Sloane Street and St. Paul's Cathedral. Other notable places to stay in the West End, include the Churchill Inter-Continental, and the Landmark London.
