New York City, NY The Waldorf Astoria

There are many places to stay in Manhattan that aren't close to Central Park, but since it's so centrally located, and there are so many attractions nearby, we decided to present the options along with some panos from the park. Let's start at 59th Street, the southern edge of the park, which is also called Central Park South where it borders the park. There are a number of great hotels on Central Park South including: The Plaza, the Four Seasons Hotel New York, the Ritz-Carlton, the Essex House, and the Helmsley Park Lane.

Another popular area near the park is Museum Mile, which runs along 5th Avenue on the East Side. Moving south past the park down the east side , you'll also find Rockefeller Center and Grand Central Station, and, a bit farther south, the Empire State Building. Hotels in this area include: The Stanhope Park Hyatt, the The Mark, the Hotel Plaza Athenee, The Palace, the The Peninsula, the The Waldorf Astoria, and the Grand Hyatt.

The pano below was shot from the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Guggenhiem Museum is a couple of blocks north.

On the West Side of Manhattan, south of the park, you'll find Times Square, Broadway, and the Theater District. Hotels in this neighborhood include: the Sheraton NY and the Marriott Marquis. Continuing south on the westside you'll find Madison Square Garden, Penn Station, and, further down, NYU (New York University) and Greenwich Village.

Central Park West runs along the west edge of the park, and is home to the Museum of Natural History. Lincoln Center is also on the west side, at 66th Street. Bordered on the west by the Hudson River, the Upper West Side of Manhattan contains some lovely neighborhoods, and includes Riverside Park and Columbia University.

Of course, these are just a few of the major areas in New York City. The southern tip of Manhattan is where you'll find Wall Street, Little Italy, Chinatown, boats to the Statue of Liberty, and the Staten Island Ferry.
