When you land in Puerto Rico, you'll be very close to Isla Verde Beach. Conveniently located right next to the airport, Isla Verde is home to dozens of hotels and casinos, including the El San Juan, Water Club, and the Ritz Carlton San Juan .
Just a 10 minute drive down the beach you'll find the nighttime hotspot of Condado, and another wide range of hotels including the Marriott San Juan and El Condado Plaza. Across the bridge from Condado, on the way to Old San Juan is the landmark Caribe Hilton.
Isla Verde makes a convenient starting place for exploring the island. If you take the back road heading east, along the coast, you'll find Pinones; a stretch of beautiful, deserted beaches that runs for miles.
About 45 minutes to the east, not far from the Westin Rio Mar and the El Yunque rainforest, you'll find the fabulous Luquillo Beach, without a doubt one of the best public beaches in the world. Clear, calm waters, showers, and a variety of food kiosks make it extremely popular with locals (especially on weekends). Highly recommended if you want the genuine Puerto Rican experience. Hundreds and hundreds of coconut palms, too!
If you continue 20 minutes eastward from Luquillo to the town of Fajardo, you'll find the spectacular El Conquistador Resort and Golden Door Spa . You can also get a boat to the island of Culebra from Fajardo. Beyond Fajardo, the coastline turns south and you'll find the Palmas Del Mar resort in Humacao. Both of these hotels are paradise for golfers.
You can also easily get from Isla Verde to historic Old San Juan, El Morro Castle, and San Juan Harbor, a central cruise ship port for exploring the Caribbean. If you want to stay in the old city, try El Convento Hotel, or the Wyndham Old San Juan. Click here for more photography from Old San Juan and El Morro.
If you choose to head westward from San Juan, you'll find the Hyatt Regency Cerromar and Hyatt Dorado Beach (both also great golf resorts) about an hour away.
Take a virtual tour of these destinations while you're finding a great place to stay.
