The Driskill Hotel
Austin is well known as the state Capitol of Texas, the home of the University of Texas, and one of the best cities to find live music in the US. Our first view of Austin is from Town Lake Park, near the Hyatt Regency Austin and the Embassy Suites Austin Downtown Town Lake, looking north towards the Four Seasons Austin and the Radisson Hotel and Suites Austin.
Proceeding north across the Congress Avenue bridge, our next stop is the corner of 6th and Brazos, looking at the famous Driskill Hotel, and at a few of the restaurants and bars on 6th Street. Other good hotel selections in the vicinity include the Intercontinental Stephen F. Austin, the Hilton Austin, and the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown.
A few blocks further north, we come to the Texas State Capitol. Hotels near the Capitol include the Doubletree Guest Suites Austin, the Sheraton Austin Hotel, and the La Quinta Inn Austin Capitol.
On the north side of the Capitol, we come to the University of Texas. One of the more interesting attractions on the UT campus, is the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library. One of many interesting exhibits at the LBJ Library is a complete replica of the Oval Office as it was during the Johnson presidency. Destination: Austin --- A good place to begin a visit to Austin is downtown, where the pink granite Texas State Capitol, built in 1888, is the most visible structure.
